SUMMARY:Gurindji Freedom Banners
DESCRIPTION:Mumkurla-nginyi-ma parrngalinyparla – from the darkness into the light. \nThe Gurindji freedom banners are a collection of 10 hand-painted banners created in 2000 by the Gurindji to share the community’s version of the historic 1966 Wave Hill walk-off. The walk-off\, or Gurindji strike\, led by Gurindji man Vincent Lingiari was an important event in Australia’s land rights movement. Many of the 35 Gurindji people involved in the banner-making project were participants in the walk-off. \nAt some stage\, banner eight\, Ngumpittu nguwula junypa wanyjarnana (Two young men dancing)\, went missing. In July 2025\, a banner-making workshop was held in Daguragu and Kalkarindji to reconstruct the missing banner and restore the collection.

The exhibition explores the idea of the trace — as mark\, imprint\, memory and connection — revealing how every creative gesture carries evidence of encounter: between artist and material\, people and place\, past and present. \nWith BRAG at its epicentre\, these connections ripple outward throughout the regions – between communities\, generations\, and their environments. Tracework encourages visitors to explore the visible and invisible threads that bind the region together. \nCurated by Dr Michael Bianco and Dionne Hooyberg\, the Biennial includes a major survey of works by 28 regional artists\, alongside solo and collaborative projects by Jacobus Capone\, Olga Cironis\, Amber Cronin and Tom Borgas\, Sharyn Egan\, and Andy Quilty.

DESCRIPTION:New South Vol. 2 presents recent examples of sculpture and installation art from across Southern Australasia. Bringing together an intergenerational group of 17 artists\, the exhibition offers a snapshot of current sculptural practice and the ideas shaping it today. \nA key theme of the exhibition is inter-relations\, what happens between objects\, materials\, built environments and viewers. The artworks are presented together in shared space\, allowing them to interact\, overlap and influence one another. These encounters invite visitors to notice new connections and meanings as they move through the exhibition. \nNew South Vol. 2 is a follow-up of two earlier exhibitions hosted by Hazelhurst Arts Centre\, South (2014)\, which featured artists from Australia\, Mexico and South Africa\, and New South (2024)\, which focused on contemporary painting from southern Australia.

Linking the black box of the performance space to the white cube of the gallery spaces\, the C*Town Conservatory acknowledges the role of this unique nexus in the programming of Campbelltown Arts Centre ahead of its forthcoming capital expansion. \nDrawing on the conservatory’s traditions of wonder and contemplation\, the project embeds the history of the CAC’s diverse cross-media programming into ornamental QR codes\, evoking breeze-block patterns of Australian suburbia and global architectural traditions. \nAudiences are invited to scan the QR codes embedded in the artwork to discover and learn about the commissioned programs at Campbelltown Arts Centre dating back to 2005. \n\n\n\n\n Add to calendar

SUMMARY:Caitlin Yardley: Relational Painting
DESCRIPTION:MOORE CONTEMPORARY presents ‘Relational Painting’\, a solo exhibition by CAITLIN YARDLEY and her first comprehensive showing in Perth since 2015 exhibitions presented at PICA and Moana. \nYardley’s practice is one of assembly – fragments brought into relation through alignment and misalignment. ‘Relational Painting’ is anchored by a work first exhibited at Maison Louis Carré in 2017 where Yardley ‘re-made’ Fritz Glarner’s absent Relational Painting No. 62 (1953) as one of a series of placeholders in quilted black goat leather. Retaining only the titles and scale of the original works to reconvene the now dispersed collection once housed there. Located just outside Paris\, Maison Louis Carré is the house (now museum) that Alvar Aalto designed for Paris art dealer Louis Carré. In her exhibition\, Yardley continues her work materially with quilted goat leather and constructs new propositions and assemblages with gridded steel fragments. Natalya Hughes’s immersive installation—combining sculptural seating\, richly patterned soft furnishings\, and uncanny objets d’art\, nestled around a hand-painted mural—generates a stimulating space to unpack our collective and unconscious biases. \nInterested in the role of women and their historical absence from positions of power\, Hughes’s part-professional\, part-domestic setting plays with gendered power dynamics between public and private space. The bespoke couches that dot the gallery take their lush contours from the shapes of the female body\, while motifs of eyes\, rats\, and snakes from Freud’s patient case studies ripple over their detailed upholstery. \nAudiences are invited to recline and be enveloped\, soothed and held\, by the furniture’s womanly forms\, while taking turns playing analyst and patient. DESCRIPTION:Void_Melbourne presents Basel Series\, the second solo exhibition by Sydney-based artist Suzie Idiens. Originating from a set of small sketches made after visiting the Kunstmuseum Basel\, the works pursue a precise idea: investigations into the formal consequences of a single intervention of a geometric form. One corner removed. A slice\, a soft incision\, cutting away at the edge. Each painting pursues this idea with precision and conviction: a dominant field of thinly veiled colour\, held against a restrained incursion of a second colour at the margin. The exacting line where the two colours meet marks a clear delineation of territory on the canvas. Paint continues around the exposed cotton canvas edges\, the work asserting itself as an object as much as an image.
