SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Garden of Eden by Gregory Ladner
DESCRIPTION:After Ladner’s successful sold-out solo exhibition\, Hidden Figures\, in 2025\, Garden of Eden marks a significant new chapter in Gregory Ladner’s abstract practice\, presenting a vibrant body of work that expands his exploration of colour\, gesture and movement. \nThrough layered mark-making and luminous palettes\, Ladner creates immersive compositions that invite viewers into richly textured worlds of rhythm\, energy and discovery. Rather than depicting nature\, the exhibition draws upon the idea of Eden as a place of creation\, abundance and endless possibility. Intricate networks of line weave across dynamic fields of colour\, balancing spontaneity with careful composition and revealing new relationships with every viewing. \nGarden of Eden celebrates painting as an evolving process; one where every gesture contributes to a living\, ever-changing landscape of abstraction\, encouraging contemplation\, curiosity and imagination.

SUMMARY:'Alter' - Solo exhibition by Lisa Ray
DESCRIPTION:Alter is a solo exhibition by Brisbane-based photographer Lisa Ray\, presented at Jan Manton Gallery\, Artspace Teneriffe\, opening 9 September. Working across flowers\, portraiture and elemental forms\, Ray explores moments suspended between dissolution and emergence. Light resembles fire\, water becomes atmosphere\, and organic forms drift between the familiar and the imagined. Rather than documenting nature\, the works draw upon it as a language through which transformation\, surrender and renewal can be felt rather than explained. Created through a slow and intuitive process\, each work occupies a threshold where nothing is fixed. Flowers bloom\, fade and transform. The human figure appears not as a portrait of identity but as another vessel within the same cycle of change. \nRSVP to the gallery for opening event with the artist on Wednesday 9 September\, 6–8pm.\nShow runs 7 September – 13 September 2026

SUMMARY:I Like the Wobbly Bits
DESCRIPTION:Opening: Thurs 3 Sept\, 6:00pm \nWhat do you get when you take a group of creatives and transport them to desert regions? Lots of delicious “wobbly bits“. That’s how recently deceased art world icon David Hockney is said to have described his relationship with the land and with drawing. But beneath the levity sits something larger. Art in the land transforms physical geography into a living\, spiritual archive. It bridges the material world and the human soul\, becoming a medium for ecological reverence and for the unseen forces of nature. \nThis group of artists working in drawing\, paint\, sculpture and the Land have been given the freedom to explore the depths of their responses to the sublime beauty of our desert regions in Far Western NSW.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Different Midnights by Mark Niehus
DESCRIPTION:Different Midnights is a collection of paintings\, moving image and free verse that explore the various ways individuals experience solitude. \nBy bringing these different stories together we are reminded of our commonalities and the value of being alone\, provoking us to question how do we experience solitude. It’s 12am and each art work frames a life\, sharing only the digestion of a day spent in the same city. Alone\, not connected\, dwelling\, quietly celebrating or reconciling their lives\, capturing each of their Different Midnights. With paintings central to the exhibition\, Niehus has continued to refine his creative process and elevate his work to new levels by exploring deeper still the degree that one can abstract a concept of emotion through the geometry of the human form\, and still evoke the empathy and curiosity needed to enter the viewer into the lottery that is the transformative power of art. \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, 29th August\, 2-4pm

SUMMARY:VARANASI - Gateway to Heaven
DESCRIPTION:These images in this photographic exhibition are a personal chronicle for Marc Baptista\, an artist and filmmaker – an exploration and rediscovery of his origins through this project on the soul of the ancient city of Varanasi (Benares). \nIn this oldest inhabited city\, these images distills his journey\, capturing the ancient and multi-layered city that breathes in contradictions – where the sacred and the profane\, the eternal and the immediate exist in a tight embrace. \n Though he was born in Bombay (now Mumbai)\, much of his adult life unfolded overseas\, and now settled in Melbourne\, Australia.  His early experiences were travelling through India alongside his documentary filmmaker father which offered him a unique and objective perspective to observe and explore. He learnt to appreciate the enigma and the wonder of India. Of all the many locations he visited\, Varanasi (Benares) left him with an indelible impression. \nReturning after nearly five decades\, he found the contradiction of a landscape transformed yet unchanged\, a paradox of time – mystifying and intense. \nThese images of Varanasi reflect his own exploration – unscripted\, instinctual\, deeply felt. At every turn he was exposed to the intense devotion\, rituals\, and a spiritual fervour within this ancient city that was overwhelming. \nIn trying to capture the city and its inhabitants – Marc wanted to depict its raw beauty but also its intangible essence – the pulse of life\, the weight of history\, the endurance of the human spirit. He tried to avoid the clichés of poverty and to just observe. Each frame told him a story – a testament to devotion\, to impermanence\, to the profound dance of life and loss …and confronting mortality. And he also got to embrace his own discovery.

SUMMARY:Kirtika Kain: Pitch
DESCRIPTION:Kirtika Kain has an ongoing interest in anti-caste movements and the experience of caste in the diaspora\, explored through material and studio processes. In her works\, gold\, bitumen\, and turmeric combine to create intricate and luminous surfaces that highlight the aesthetic and affective qualities of her chosen materials. \nThe tar used in each of these works carries a material history of extraction\, labour and transformation\, as well as a cultural history of ritual\, ceremony\, and medicine. The histories of the gold and turmeric used prominently in the works is equally rich and complex. Kain acknowledges these embedded histories while engaging in experimental processes that extend the cultural language of the materials. \nThe new works presented in Pitch reflect Kain’s background as printmaker. The two sides of the ambitious central work are essentially a plate and a print\, with the canvas side having acted as the printing plate for the hessian component. Similarly\, the smaller tar works that surround the significant scrolling work are produced as casts of other painted surfaces. In this way\, Kain’s studio becomes like an archive that continually creates itself. These processes are also alchemical\, dealing in transferal and transformation. \nPitch is a Murray Art Museum Albury exhibition presented in partnership with Campbelltown Arts Centre.

SUMMARY:Shedding
DESCRIPTION:After a long silence\, Nomads Collective returns with Shedding.\nA one-night art experience inside Machine Hall\, opening a conversation between tradition and contemporary art expressions. \nSet within a former power substation\, the event is amplified by the building itself: its history\, its industrial weight\, and the charge of a place once built to power the city. \nBuilt through performance\, music\, installation\, and visual work\, Shedding brings together artists drawn to experimentation\, enquiry\, transformation\, and release. \nAcross the night\, artists move through questions of exposure\, distortion\, memory and the surfaces we carry. At a time when the self is constantly watched\, performed\, and repeated\, Shedding looks toward what sits underneath. We circle the moment where something starts to give. \nLineup TBA.

SUMMARY:Melody Popple: Balun Gawarima – River Story
DESCRIPTION:Balun Gawarima – River Story is a new exhibition by Indigenous artist Melody Popple\, developed through her PhD project Moving Through Waters. Grounded in the waterways of Bundjalung Jagun\, the exhibition explores the cultural\, emotional\, and ecological significance of water through bush dyeing\, natural pigments\, and visual story-mapping. \nCreated in collaboration with Country\, the works use native flora\, found materials\, and water gathered from local river systems to produce richly layered eco-printed textiles that carry the physical imprint of place. Water becomes both subject and collaborator – activating pigments\, shaping form\, and holding memory. \nResponding to the realities of a post-flood Bundjalung landscape\, the exhibition reflects on water as a force of both destruction and renewal. Through acts of returning\, listening\, gathering\, and making\, Popple’s practice becomes an offering back to Country – honouring connection\, healing\, reciprocity\, and the enduring stories carried by river systems.
