“My journey as an artist has been a path of discovery, mentorship, and capturing the beauty in nature!”

Robyn Barron

Robyn Barron’s botanical photography, deeply influenced by her love of nature and her artistic journey alongside her photographer husband, captures the delicate intricacies of flora. Her work, spanning over 43 years, showcases her eye for detail and light.

How many years have you been creating and showcasing your art?

I have been working on my Botanical Photography for nearly 6 years now. But my journey started 43 years ago as a young model who met a handsome photographer and fell in love! I have been mentored by my very clever husband and taught how to capture still-life images with an eye for detail and beautiful light.

How would you describe the style and themes of your work?

I would definitely say that I am a bit of a romantic deeply influenced by the great botanical photographers of the past such as Karl Blossfeldt and the beautiful Sarah Moon. I have a great love of roses and Australian native plants. I would like to think that my work will inspire people to look more closely at the beauty of the minutiae found in nature.

Are you earning from your art?

I have sold a few pieces to galleries in the USA and collectors. Most of these enquiries have come from my Instagram account. But I wish to become more recognized for my work on a larger scale. That would be so wonderful.

What feedback have you received so far?

The most wonderful feedback I get has to do with the uniqueness of my work and the amount of feeling found in it. My large Instagram following is an absolutely amazing bunch of artists from all fields and from everywhere in the world. The best comments have to do with the amount of passion and skill I bring to my botanicals.

Do you have a day job? Or are you a full-time artist?

I am a horticulturist/garden designer and I have a part-time job in a Garden Centre. Maybe once my art becomes more financially viable I could retire (after all I am 66 years old!) and devote all my time to my art.

Any upcoming projects?

I have an exhibit this year for the Northern Rivers Regional Gallery in Art Boxes at Lennox Beach, it will run for 6 weeks with great exposure on the Main Street opposite the beach!! Also, I have been shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards in the object category – a great honour!

Why do you choose to print your art with PosterFactory?

I have been so happy to have found Poster Factory to print my work. The level of care and expertise they pour into every job is outstanding. My paper of choice is Hahnemuhle Photo Rag which gives just the right balance in the shadows and highlights and a beautiful romantic feel. Their packaging is also next-level crazy good!!
