“I am very grateful to be able to pursue a creative path every day.”
Trish Crampton
Trish is a Sydney based artrepreneur, painter, mum, and educator. Her body of work deals with everyday objects surrounding her life — a genre known as Still Life.
Trish, how did you get started as an artist?
My whole life, pretty much, I’ve made art of some kind. As a kid and the youngest of six, Mum says you could always find me in a quiet corner, bum in the air and making or drawing something! I studied printmaking straight from school at Sydney College of the Arts and received a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
Tell us a little more about your work. What inspires you?
I love painting vessels and still life vanitas. Inspired by Italian artist Morandi and his quiet, contemplative still life paintings, I produce calm, monochromatic images of familiar, everyday vessels. The hope is that my works bring the same serene joy and a feeling of slowing down to reflect.
How do you navigate business as an Artrepreneur?
I have been a practising artist since College, exhibiting in solo exhibitions and group shows. I have been an art educator for 30 years and teaching workshops from my home studio for ten years.
Since COVID cancelled exhibitions, I’ve had to rethink my approach. With a lot of help, I now have a website and create beautiful archival quality prints of my work. Offering prints has been positive and accessible for a wider audience. I’ve also made a card set with PosterFactory, which I’ve loved.
Today, I run an ecommerce store where you can purchase art pieces, and I host workshops at my studio.
